About VC

VC (Viatores Christi) is a development and training organisation (with its HQ in Ireland and a regional office in Kampala, Uganda) working within faith-based international development. VC works with over 20 partners across a range of sectors and countries. VC addresses needs through development and humanitarian assistance interventions and recruits, trains and places skilled personnel. Annually over 150,000 individuals directly benefit from the work of VC across partners in the areas of health, education, human rights, income generation and livelihoods. The organisation is funded by Irish Aid through its intermediary Misean Cara. VC is also engaged with EU Aid Volunteering Initiative (EUAVI) and Erasmus+ projects.

Summary

A vacancy for a Training & Development Manager has arisen within VC. The potential candidate will manage and develop VC’s portfolio of online, blended and face to face training for the international development sector. The Manager will lead all training activities including new programme development, existing programme delivery and support systems through the introduction of appropriate systems, structures and quality assurance policies and procedures.

The role requires knowledge and experience of international development practice as well as development education and global citizenship education (GCE).

This senior role will also involve identifying new markets and opportunities.

This remote working role will be multifaceted and will be of interest to experienced candidates seeking an exciting new challenge.

It is envisaged that the role will have three main areas of focus, but will be moulded to the skillset of the applicant.

  • The ongoing development of our training programme both online and face to face in line with the strategic direction for VC

  • Increasing and marketing the development education component of our training

  • Increasing the accessibility and inclusion aspects of our training in line with VC’s commitment to disability inclusive practice within the sector.

Duties

The Training & Development Manager will be responsible for the day to day management of all VC’s training and learning programmes. The candidate will be required to:

  • Explore and develop opportunities to grow and expand the VC Upskills Online training portfolio using the TalentLMS online platform.

  • Manage and ensure ongoing quality and relevance of all online training in terms of content, delivery and online platforms.

  • Continue the ongoing development of the VentureTraining for Development programme and market in line with new strategic marketing plan.

  • Migrate relevant data from Moodle to TalentLMS as necessary.

  • Co-ordinate training of volunteers before going into the field and those in field if appropriate.

  • Liaise with existing external facilitators and trainers with regard to ongoing delivery, contracts, payments and scheduling where required.

  • Plan and monitor training outcomes.

  • Develop and deliver content for face to face and online courses as required in the area of development education and practical development skills training.

  • Coordinate the ongoing compliance and audit requirements for the IDEA Code of Good practice for Development Education.

  • Responsible for the development and submission of proposals to funders around the VC training programme and development education in particular.

  • Keep up to date with training requirements and best practice for the sector.

  • Contribute to the dissemination/communication of training outcomes to relevant stakeholders/funders.

  • Some weekend work on-site in Dublin when current COVID19 public health measures are eased

EU Erasmus+ Training Inclusion Project

  • Coordinate the training element of this 2 year pilot project which aims to develop an inclusive module on GCE, Global Citizenship Education.

Additional areas

  • As a member of the management team contribute in areas of overall direction, policy, programme development
  • Attendance at training events, conferences and other functions as necessary
  • Familiarise and keep up to date on policies and procedures
  • Organisation of and attendance at fundraising or networking events as required

Person Specification

Essential Skills

  • Training design and delivery

  • Adult education facilitation

  • Experience of Development Education programmes

  • Online training and online training platforms ideally TalentLMS

  • Experience of international development projects and funding proposals

  • Experience and/or knowledge of international development.

  • Learning and Development degree or other equivalent qualification or experience.

  • High degree of IT, Social Media and data literacy skills

  • Fluent English (verbal and written)

  • Strong networking and influencing skills

  • Excellent proofing skills

Desirable Skills

  • EU project experience

  • Experience in devising, implementing, monitoring and evaluating successful PR/Marketing Campaigns.

  • Experienced with photo and video-editing software

Reporting / Relationships Structures

The successful candidate will be based remotely will report initially to the CEO in Dublin. Working as part of the VC team, he or she will also work with the VC Uganda team to ensure that output is in line with agreed strategy and that all aspects outlined above are delivered.

Starting salary will be between – €32,000 to €35,000 pro-rata and contract will be for a minimum of 3 days per week.
