Context & Mission
Through the 2020 Environmental Pact, the 2019 International General Assembly Climate Crisis motion, the commitment of the Movement at large and MSF Strategic Plans, MSF has recognized that the climate crisis and environmental degradation is affecting population health, especially already-vulnerable groups. The crisis also impacts MSF operations, and requires the capacity, resources and internal knowledge base in order to transition MSF operations to be a more sustainable, low-carbon and adaptive organization. The global scientific community, for example at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), The WHO and the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change, has made a definitive link between the climate crisis and the significant impact it will have on the health. Many highly affected countries are ones in which MSF operates.
Climate Smart Phase 3 is a very large-scale project funded by MSF’s Transformational Investment Capacity. The project both an action and coordinating body that is hosted by Operational Centre Geneva OCG and sponsored by Operational Centre Barcelona and Amsterdam and supported by MSF Canada). It aims to scale and mainstream climate action, enhance and support ongoing efforts and collaborations within MSF. The initiative aims to provide and broadly share the tools and resources necessary to respond to climate change impacts and reduce pollution in in a low-carbon, adaptable and flexible way while also supporting the development of new resources that can be adopted by entities within the MSF Movement and be adapted to their particular circumstances. The Climate Smart MSF Supply Chain Sustainability Analyst builds on supply chain work in Phase 2 that looked holistically at CO2 and waste impacts, measured the CO2 of the supply chain and products within it, shared best practices in and out of MSF and explored alternative and green finance for decarbonization and MSF’s sustainability transition.
The Supply Chain Sustainability Analyst provides analytical support to inform future initiatives aiming at increasing the sustainability of MSF Supply Chain. She/ he will also support the efforts in the area of Sustainable Procurement, notably through the co-development of guidance, tools and trainings related to it.
The position demands agility, adaptability, flexibility, intercultural skills and ability to deal in a fast-paced environment :
· Objective 1: conduct analysis and research to establish the base for future initiatives
· Objective 2: assist the Supply Chain Sustainability Coordinator in the co-development of sustainable procurement guidance, tools and trainings
Conduct analysis and research to establish the baseline for future initiatives
· Upon request and approval of main supply chain stakeholders, perform root cause analysis of avoidable CO2 emissions based on quantitative and qualitative supply chain data
· Liaise with various MSF supply chain entities to collect the data and information required to perform the analysis
· Benchmark results and practices across MSF supply chain entities to identify improvement areas
· Network with external partners/organizations to share on best practices/ tools aiming to improve supply chain sustainability
· Perform basic supply chain modeling to evaluate impacts (financial, environmental and social) of potential initiatives
· Produce written and visual reports based on prior analysis and research
Assist the Supply Chain Sustainability Coordinator in the co-development of sustainable procurement guidance, tools and trainings
· In collaboration with the Sustainable Procurement Working Group, various technical working groups and external partners, co-develop sustainable procurement guidelines
· In collaboration with the MSF Strategic Procurement Program (MSPP) and/ or Legal Unit, adapt procurement templates/ tools to integrate sustainability considerations
· In collaboration with the MSF supply chain entities, develop appropriate sustainable procurement trainings or adapt current procurement trainings to integrate sustainability considerations into them.
· Upon request, provide ad hoc advise and support on sustainability issues during the procurement process
· Support in the design and implementation of a shared tool to monitor progress on sustainable procurement
· Understanding and mitigation of legal, financial, reputational and duty of care risks to MSF in light of climate change and environmental degradation impact on health such as potential mandatory cost and legal responsibility to reduce and pay for carbon emissions (vs current moral and voluntary nature of mitigation activities), and potential supply chain disruption.
· Organizational, administrative tasks to support Supply Chain Sustainability Coordinator, including helping to support scheduling of meetings with various stakeholders and partners, preparation of presentations, organization of team shared drive and documents.

Knowledge and Experience
· Demonstrable knowledge on issues related to Supply Chain management and data analytics
· Demonstrable experience in issues related to Supply Chain humanitarian/emergency or environmental contexts and understanding of climate change and environmental degradation impact on health and how this connects to MSF’s social mission and population vulnerabilities
· Demonstrable added experience in Environmental science, engineering, math, public health, change management, and/or climate change and environment is an asset
· Demonstrable experience working in complex, multi-faceted organizations on issues related to supply chain and operational sustainability
· Demonstrable experience engaging with multiple internal and external stakeholders, complex coordination and diplomacy, participating in teams on interdisciplinary issues
· Demonstrated experience in taking charge of demarcated duties with high levels of autonomy, time management
· Demonstrated knowledge of computer and relevant software applications
· Fluency in written and spoken English is essential;
· fluency in written and spoken French a strong asset.
· Spanish and other languages an asset.
Terms of Employment
· Fixed-term contract, 12 months
· Full-time, 100%
· Working place: to be discussed (likely in applicant’s country of residence or project’s partner section)
· Ideal start date: March 1st, 2022
· Remuneration: according to the salary scale of the project’s partner section and the applicant’s country of residence
