The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) Early Warning Team (EWT) seeks to engage a regional data consultant for up to fifteen days per month from November 2021 to April 2022. The location of work for the regional data consultant will be determined with the selection of the successful candidate. Chemonics International (Chemonics) implements the FEWS NET EWT, a team charged with integrated emergency food insecurity analysis through a Washington-based technical office and more than 20 field offices.
Regional data consultants support the FEWS NET EWT data and markets and trade (M&T) teams by collating and processing data relevant to food security early warning efforts to meet decision support needs. This regional data consultant position is anticipated to focus on these data collating and processing efforts in geographies including Yemen, Central Asia, and others as requested by the EWT and/or by USAID.
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required; other language skills relevant to the Central Asia region (e.g., Pashto, Dari) are highly desirable
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, agronomy, agroclimatology, or another discipline that is directly relevant to socio-economic data collection and processing is required; previous educational and/or professional experience in computer science, database construction, development of data collection methodologies, tools and process, data quality control, data visualizations, and/or GIS is desirable
- At least one year of relevant experience with a master’s degree or three years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree is required. Relevant experience includes working on food security information systems, food security analysis, early warning, or other related fields as listed above. Previous experience working with NGOs or UN agencies is highly desirable
