Program Coordinator (6 month contract)

Lifebox is a global non-profit that saves lives through safer surgery and anesthesia. Co-founded and chaired by Dr. Atul Gawande, Lifebox works to increase anesthesia safety, reduce surgical infection rates, and strengthen operating room teamwork through tools, training, and partnerships. Since its founding in 2011, Lifebox has worked in over 116 countries and trained more than 10,000 healthcare providers.

To support the program team’s delivery of our three-year strategic plan, focussing on the refinement and expansion of work around safe anesthesia, surgical infection reduction and teamwork and communication in the operating room. Working closely with the programme team and other colleagues throughout the organization, as well as our trustees, advisors and external partners, the post will support and facilitate the delivery of our plan in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America.


Programme support (approx 50%)
● Providing logistical and administrative support to the organization and delivery of training programs, and other programmes of work, in collaboration with Lifebox Program Managers and partners
● Liaising with staff, partners, advisors and other stakeholders to ensure Lifebox programs are developed, planned and executed to a high standard and in accordance with plans and budgets
● Supporting the development and rollout of Monitoring and Evaluation tools, taking responsibility for the timely input of programme data upon request
● Working with the Program Team to ensure programme information is gathered and stored accurately and appropriately, for reporting and collaboration both internally and externally
● In collaboration with the Program Team and fundraising staff, supporting the development and submission of funding proposals and donor reports, including logframes and budgets
● Organising and minuting meetings of various Working Groups and Committees in support of Lifebox’s programs
● Supporting Lifebox presence at conferences and events
● Other tasks in support of Lifebox’s global programmes as appropriate

Training and grant coordination (approx 50%)
● Coordinate Lifebox’s training work, particularly:

  1. ensuring that training materials are of the highest quality from content and design perspectives, with the input of experts
  2. being responsible for version control of all training materials
  3. day to day management of the Lifebox Learning Network – updating or uploading new materials and tracking user numbers, making recommendations for improvement
  4. tracking and where necessary acting on feedback on training materials
  5. ensuring that best practices are shared within the programme and clinical teams, and are followed in training delivery

● Track and coordinate grant management across the organisation, particularly ensuring that narrative reporting obligations are met on time and to a high standard.


● Experience of working or volunteering in the global health, development or humanitarian sectors
● Ability to work and communicate with colleagues, partners and contractors across disparate geographical and cultural settings
● Strong administrative and organisational skills
● Self-motivated with proven ability to take initiative
● Ability to prioritise tasks and work to competing deadlines
● Excellent written and spoken English
● Good communication skills, able to communicate clearly and appropriately
● Awareness of international development and global health issues, current trends and priorities
● Excellent IT skills (particularly in Word, Excel and Powerpoint and/or the Google suite equivalents)
● Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
● Strong commitment to Lifebox’s mission and vision
● Experience supporting or coordinating the delivery of global health, development or
humanitarian programmes
● Experience working or volunteering in a low-resource setting
● Fluency in additional languages, particularly French, Spanish or Hindi
● Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation tools and practices
● Qualification in global health, international development or similar
● Experience of managing and/or delivering training
