ILGA World seeks a person to support the Executive Director and Senior Management of the organisation in all matter pertaining to Human resources.

The Human Resources Manager reports to the Executive Director.
The ideal candidate will start working in March or April 2023.


The Human Resources Manger supports the Executive Director and Senior Management Team in all matters pertaining to human resources. This includes, but is not limited to

  • developing, and implementing the priorities and structure of the Human resources area
  • ensuring the compliance of all Human Resources documents and practices with Swiss law and other host countries regulations
  • improving how Human Resources work is currently being done and to develop new HR systems and working spaces.
  • supporting the Senior Management Team in developing and revising internal workflows and adapt those to remote work settings.
  • supporting the Senior Management Team in recruitment processes and performance appraisal systems.
  • providing trainings in different areas to support staff and team-building activities

The successful candidate should be strongly committed to working for human rights and equality, and have competencies and demonstrated experience in the following areas:


7-10 years of relevant experience working on human resources within an international NGOs – in particular membership-based organisations

Education & Qualifications

  • An advanced university degree in Human Resources, Business or Public Administration, law, social sciences or a related field – or 5 years of equivalent experience
  • Human Resources Association accreditation

Technical requirements

  • Knowledge of and experience with employment law is a must – knowledge on Suisse Employment law will be considered an asset.
  • Understanding of employment requirements for employees and contractors from non-EEA countries.
  • Knowledge of working with flexible working systems and developing HR systems for remote-based workforce is an advantage
  • Experience in working with remote workforce
  • Experience with expatriate compensation and benefits systems
  • Knowledge of change management in an international organisation working on human rights
  • Ability to manage and implement complex organisational processes
  • Develop and drive strategic change, set priorities and ensure effective use of human resources
  • Good knowledge of trauma-informed workspaces

Other requirements

  • Direct experience of working in Global South contexts
  • Availability for international travel related to the events and trainings held by the organisation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy
  • Resilience and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Being a team player, contributing to the work of ILGA as a whole
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral. Fluency in Spanish and French are also highly desirable. Other languages, especially UN languages, are an asset.

Performance of duties, remuneration, and benefits
  • ILGA World is currently introducing a flexible workplace regime – under the new rules this position can be implemented remotely and does not require relocation to Geneva, Switzerland
  • The position is advertised at 60% of a full-time position
  • ILGA World remunerates under a three-tiered salary matrix structure. The annual salary being offered for the post ranges between CHF 44,280 and CHF 56,160 for the 60% position, depending on location
  • In addition, ILGA World offers 25 days annual leave and contributions to health care costs
  • ILGA World operates under the flexible working system, that among others include flexible working hours
  • The weekly working time is 37.5 hours on a 100% position, this position amounts to a weekly working time of 22.5 hours
