Consultant on Human Rights Education Advocacy and Training
Background and Purpose
Amnesty International Europe, and Central Asia (ECA) Human Rights Education (HRE) team is looking for a Consultant on human rights education advocacy and teacher training in Central Asia, who will work with us to build upon the successful introduction of explicit human rights education in the Kyrgyzstan school curriculum and further the roll out of the Human Rights Education (HRE) for the Write for Rights Campaign in Central Asia.
We are looking for a consultant with solid experience of advocating for human rights in curriculum and of designing and delivering human-rights-based educational journeys for teachers. Candidates’ familiarity with the educational systems in Central Asia is a strong advantage.
A working knowledge of Russian, Kyrgyz and English is required.
Purpose of the assignment
The Consultant is expected to:
- Support and contribute to the alignment between the newly developed educational Subject Standard and the existing teachers’ materials (УМК) for the subject with the focus on human rights
- Coordinate and contribute to the development of the educational course for teachers based on the new subject standard with the focus on human rights and in collaboration between Amnesty International and the Republic Institute for Advanced Studies and Teachers Training of Kyrgyzstan (РИППК)
- Support with the development of Write for Rights 2023 materials (including reviews of the Kyrgyz language) and the organisation of the educational W4R activity for teachers in November 2024.
Deliverables
The consultant is expected to deliver the following:
- Agreement between Amnesty and the Republic Institute (РИППК) on the course for teachers about human rights component in the new subject curriculum (Q2, 2023)
- Amnesty Recommendations on the alignment of existing pilot teachers’ materials for Years 7-8 and the new Subject Standard (Q2-4, 2023)
- W4R materials in Kyrgyz reviewed (Q3, 2023)
- First draft (high-level mapping) of the course for teachers on how to teach human rights within the new subject standard (Q4, 2023)
- High-quality Russian-Kyrgyz translation, interpretation and co-facilitation for the W4R activity for teachers is provided where needed (Q4, 2023)
