1. BACKGROUND:

IMPACT – Civil Society Research and Development e.V., founded in Berlin in 2013, is a non-profit civil society organization with offices in Iraq, Turkey, and Syria. The core of IMPACT’s mission is civil society support through long-term and balanced support to individuals and organizations in conflict and developed countries. IMPACT’s main areas of intervention, capacity-building, research, peace-building, and diaspora engagement.

2. PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The overall objective of the training is to build the capacity of the staff of IMPACT’s partners in concepts related to conflict, conflict sensitivity, and management, which could enhance their capability in designing and implementing effective programs that consider the sensitivity of conflict in their communities.

Training covers topics such as, but are not limited to:

  • Define conflict, the different types of conflict, the stages of the conflict, and the root causes of conflict.
  • Identifying the underlying causes, the different actors involved in the conflict, and the impacts of the conflict on the community.
  • Conflict resolution methods and approaches include negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.
  • Cultural sensitivity and conflict management, including understanding different cultures’ norms, values, and beliefs.
  • The role of human rights in conflict resolution and the legal framework that governs conflicts.
  • Conflict-sensitive programming: Strategies for designing and implementing programs considering the potential impact on conflict.
  • Strategies for rebuilding communities after conflict, including reconciliation and peacebuilding efforts.
  • Understanding power’s role in conflict and navigating power imbalances in conflict resolution.
  • Strategies for preventing conflict from occurring in the first place include early warning systems and conflict-sensitive development.

3. SCOPE OF WORK

The assignment is to impart a 2-day training workshop on Conflict Management that helps organizations develop to get a deep understanding of conflict management and consider conflict sensitivity in developing their community interventions; the workshop is planned to be on 19 to 20 March 2023.

3.1. The training is aimed at achieving the following objectives:

  • To enable CSOs to clearly and accurately understand key concepts of conflict, conflict management, and conflict sensitivity.
  • To enable CSOs to consider conflict sensitivity in developing their future programs and projects.

3.2. METHODOLOGY:

3.2.1. Deliver using a blended learning approach and might comprise presentations, interactive sessions of practical exercise, and group work.

3.2.2. After each session, participants will be given practical sessions using individual or group exercises to ensure they can apply what they have learned to practice immediately.

3.2.3. Participatory training methods include brainstorming, simulation, group discussion and case analysis.

3.3. KEY DELIVERABLES:

3.3.1. Following deliverables are expected from the training provider:

  • Trainer will prepare agenda/contents/sessions of the training and submit these at least one week before the start of the training.
  • Trainer shall conduct pre-test from all participants of the training.
  • Trainer will also share a complete package of training material that may be provided to the participants.
  • Trainer will facilitate preparation of training follow up and action plan
  • The trainer will share a comprehensive training report on the agreed format within 10 days after the completion of the training.

3.4. LOCATION:

3.4.1. The training will be online over ZOOM platform .

3.5. TIMEFRAME:

3.5.1. This is a short-term assignment for individual consultants for a maximum of 4 days between 10 to 30 March 2023.

3.6. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

3.6.1. The trainer/consultant/resource person will:

  • Sign with IMPACT a consultancy agreement and work as a resource person for the 2-day training workshop.
  • Discuss and agree with IMPACT on the final training package, content, and deliverables.
  • Design an appropriate process of the training leading to the desired results.
    Propose the most appropriate training methodology for the effective delivery of the assignment.
  • Devise the tools required for each session of the training.
  • Satisfactorily facilitate the training sessions and ensure active engagement of all the participants.
  • Share relevant training materials and provide any resource materials for further reading and reference by trained staff.
  • Design a questionnaire for pre and post-test (to be used before and after the workshop) for workshops to measure the participants’ level of understanding about the topics discussed in the training workshop. Compile and submit quality training report (one soft copy)

3.7. SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

3.7.1. The resource person/consultant should possess the following qualifications and expertise:

  • An advanced degree in the Social Sciences is preferable. Postgraduate qualification in social research or related areas is a clear advantage.
  • Traceable previous training work, knowledge, experience, and passion for conflict management and peace-building are a must.
  • Strong experience in conflict management relevant programs (preferred in the Syrian context).
  • Excellent report writing and tool development skills are requirements for developing the tools and policy.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and drafting skills
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory.

4. TECHINCAL PROPOSAL:

4.1.1. The technical proposal should include but not be limited to the following information:

  • A brief outline of recent experience and client references in carrying out assignments of similar nature (Max. 1 page)
  • A detailed description of how the consultant/firm understands and will respond to the ToR, including the time frame.
  • Curriculum Vitae of trainer
  • FINANCIAL PROPOSAL:

5.1.1. The financial proposal must contain an overall quotation in Euro for all the services to be provided and must follow the following:

  • Summary of the total costs for the services proposed
  • Any taxes applicable
  • PROPOSED PAYMENT SCHEDULE:

6.1.1. 100% of the payment will be released to the trainer after completing the training.
